As a succesful studio, art gallery owner or photographer, how many times have your clients, friends or family said; "Hey get a real job" to you?

Usually they are envious of all the perks you have;

  • You set your own hours
  • Get tax breaks
  • Get to do what you Love to do
  • Pick and choose with whom you work

So why would you consider getting a real job? (Realize I am NOT saying quit your business, not at all. Lets list some reasons you might "get a real job."

  • You are isolated - seeing only your clients and a very few others each week
  • You need to improve your customer service skills
  • You want to improve your business management skills
  • You want to expand your networking circle
  • You are having trouble balancing work and play time

Many many of the current crop of Hot New Photographers, started out with a built in client list... How? Many worked in the hi-tech field, and were of marrying age. Think about that. They were techies, love gadgets, were methodical in their schooling and work ethic, they naturallytook to a creative outlet like photography, once their skills in the craft had grown to a pro level, their friends, who were naturally getting married, asked them to photograph their weddings. With all the built in connections within their main industry, they then had a long list of clients fed to themm via referral.

So what if you are already a full time photographer? You can do the same thing, just reverse engineer it.

  • You can re-socialize yourself, get around new and different people, enjoy and feel at ease in social networking situations. (as artists, its easy to stand back and watch, observe, take note, but stay a step back)
  • You can benefit from hundreds of thousands of dollars of marketing, sales, and management training, that you could never afford to pay for yourself, no matter how succesful you are.
  • You can coonect to hundreds of potential clients that will see and admire your artwork.
  • You will be forced to work a schedule, which for some self employed people, will be a HUGE improvement in the quality of life.

Get a Part time Job, if you are hi energy like me, get a full time job.
